All About IPL Laser Hair Removal
By amclain
IPL laser stands for Intense Pulsed Light laser. Another common name for it is photothermolysis treatment. Whatever the name the basic idea behind this laser is to use a non evasive and non surgical way to remove unwanted hair from the body.
This is a very common and popular procedure. In 2007 the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery estimated that over a half a million procedures were done on woman alone and an additional 60 thousand were done on men alone.
The cost of this procedure is within reason and within reach for a lot of people. The procedure can cost anywhere from $100 to $600 per session depending on the location and plastic surgeon performing the procedure.
People have many different reasons for getting IPL laser hair removal done versus other hair removal procedures. First, IPL lasers are less expensive procedures than other types of laser hair removal. Also, larger areas like the legs and back can be done using IPL laser treatment.
One bad thing about the IPL laser machine is that it uses a full spectrum of light whereas other laser hair removal procedures do not. This allows the intensity of the laser to change. This can lead to burns and side effects if misused. Also it lowers the precision and control of the IPL laser.
IPL laser hair removal should only be considered if you don't have enough money or you can trust that the plastic surgeon is not misusing the IPL laser machine. IPL laser treatment is recommended mainly for skin rejuvenation and/or correction.
This is not to imply that IPL Laser hair removal is a bad idea. It is to imply that you make sure the IPL laser that will be used to perform your hair removal is safe for you type of skin and hair color and that your plastic surgeon has sufficient experience dealing with this type of operation.
So what have we learned about IPL laser hair removal? First, it is an inexpensive way to remove hair from the body. Second, we need to be sure we do our homework before jumping into the procedure. Why? Because we don't want to get burned. Finally, it is probably a good idea to get some references before allowing any plastic surgeon to operate on you with an IPL laser machine.
